U.S. Marines with Echo Battery, Battalion Landing Team 3/4, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), fire an M777 towed 155 mm howitzer during an indirect fire range at Combined Arms Training Center Camp Fuji, Japan, March 16, 2021. Indirect fire is performed by calculating and adjusting azimuths and inclinations on the howitzer and utilizing forward observers to call for and adjust fire on targets. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
