LCDR. Danny Maldonado, NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center San Diego Southwest Regional fuels officer, (foreground), reads a Civilian Service Commendation Medal citation for Digna Feria, a supervisory chemist with NAVSUP FLC San Diego Fuels Department, who retired after 41 years of service with the Navy, at Naval Base Point Loma, Calif., March 25, 2021. Feria's expertise and numerous achievements have had a major impact on the mission of FLC San Diego, and the Navy. Specifically, in 2009, her keen attention to detail and adherence to laboratory standards quickly identified the reasons why the JP-5 being received from the newly commissioned Kinder Morgan Breakout facility at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar was failing critical testing requirements. In 2013, Feria's technical proficiency was called upon to analyze issues with toxicity off gassing of hydrogen sulfide effluents emanating from the Fuel Oil Recovery Plant. More recently, she was instrumental in the planning, design, and transition preparations for the new $4.8 million dollar petroleum laboratory at the Point Loma Fuel Farm; just a few of her many accomplishments throughout her 41-year career. Feria plans to spend more time with her family during retirement.
