The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District completed the Nome seawall in 1951. It was the first civil works project built by the newly formed district. In 2021, the district received funding for the preconstruction, engineering and design phase of the Port of Nome Modification Project as it continues to work with the community.
