General Order No. 6 established the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District on April 9, 1946. The newly formed organization was granted “jurisdiction over all military construction and military real estate functions” in the state. Three years later, the district also received jurisdiction for civil works in the Last Frontier.
