“I primarily conduct local national tracing and play a role as a liaison for local nationals. When there is a positive SOFA case, [the U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa] will do what is called contract tracing. If we find any local national that works on base as close contacts with COVID-positive SOFA personnel, we ask [them] to stay home for 14 days. We test all of them before they return to work. We have tested over 400 local national as close contacts. No one was infected. If we find a local national with close contact with a COVID-positive SOFA personnel that is not related to base operations, we inform Okinawa Prefectural Government, and OPG will take over their follow up. OPG does the same for us. By such collaborative efforts between US military and OPG, we ensure people are protected as much as possible on and off base.”
