PACIFIC OCEAN (April 22, 2021) Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class Michael Smith, from Atlanta, conducts maintenance on a strainer in the aft engine room of amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), April 22. Essex is underway as part of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) conducting routine training off the coast of southern California.
