Smith, of Mooresville, N.C., and Newman, of Matthews, N.C., helped assemble the large coils to smaller one that were fed into the windows of the Rudisill National Guard Armory Joint Operations Center when the cooling system failed a few days prior. JTF-Panther made up the military support and response element for the Democratic National Convention, a national special-security event held Sept. 3-6, in Charlotte.
