The Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church at Union, N.J., April 26, 2021. The church was the site of the Battle of Connecticut Farms during the Revolutionary War, which was an attempt by the British to break through and attack Washington’s army at Morristown June 7, 1780. Meeting stiff resistance, the British reevaluated their position and withdrew, setting fire to the church and town of Connecticut Farms, now Union Township. The present church was rebuilt in 1782. The church’s cemetery contains the bodies of more than 70 American Soldiers and a mass grave of British and Hessian soldiers who died in the fighting. The Battle of Connecticut Farms was the last major battle in the northern colonies. (New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs photo by Mark C. Olsen)
