Meet Pfc. Malik Scott, a Patriot launching station operator assigned to 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery. “Personally, I can’t sit behind a desk,” Scott said. “I’m a crew member on a launching station so I set up the launcher and make sure everything is running smoothly. It keeps me on my feet and it’s a fun time.”
“Tradition motivated me,” Scott said of his enlistment. His father served in the Army and grandfather served in the Air Force. “I grew up in this environment,” he said. I wanted to keep it going in the Family.”
Although Scott has been enlisted for less than a year, he explained he wanted to make the Army a career and use all the benefits of enlistment to better himself.
Scott and his unit are currently deployed from their home station in Baumholder, Germany to an air base in Zadar, Croatia in support of DEFENDER-Europe 21.
DEFENDER-Europe 21 is a large-scale U.S. Army-led exercise designed to build readiness and interoperability between U.S., NATO allies and partner militaries. This year more than 28,000 multinational forces from 26 nations will conduct nearly simultaneous operations across more than 30 training areas in more than a dozen countries from the Baltics to the strategically important Balkans and Black Sea Region.
