Chief Petty Officer (SW/AW) Gerald William holds his daughter during a homecoming ceremony for the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63), shortly after the ship arrived at Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka. Kitty Hawk, the world's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, returned after completing a fall deployment and participation in ANNUALEX, the maritime component of the U.S.-Japan exercise Keen Sword 08. The exercise was designed to increase interoperability between the United States and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and enhance their ability to effectively and mutually respond to a regional crisis situation.
