Water from the Elizabeth River is being pumped into one of the containment cells at the Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area. The water is being used to support dredging activities in one of the cells where sand is being reclaimed and repurposed for other uses. The facility itself, is a 2,500-acre confined dredged material disposal site located in Portsmouth, VA.
