Petty Officer 3rd Class David Ramos, a food service specialist aboard the 378-foot Coast Guard Cutter Sherman, lowers his goggles as he prepares to man a 25-mm machine gun during a simulated attack on the cutter for Tailored Ship’s Training Availability, an intensive training period designed to develop cutter crews’ performance in shipboard operations and emergency procedures, off the coast of San Diego, Friday, Aug. 3, 2012. The crew had to contend with multiple mock emergencies occurring simultaneously aboard the cutter such as a man overboard drill, multiple terrorist attacks, fires and flooding during TSTA, which was facilitated by Afloat Training Group San Diego, a joint Navy and Coast Guard group who train, evaluate and certify Coast Guard cutter crews.
