U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Erol Munir, Office of Defense Cooperation chief at the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, briefs U.S. Ambassador to Albania Yuri Kim on the cooperative efforts between the Albanian Red Cross and Albanian and U.S. forces at a public open house that took place as part of DEFENDER-Europe 21 activities May 21, 2021, in Vlore, Albania. The ARC often works hand in hand with Albanian military emergency responders, medical personnel and other entities when providing relief and education to the public here. DEFENDER-Europe 21 is a large-scale U.S. Army-led exercise designed to build readiness and interoperability between the U.S., NATO allies and partner militaries. This year, more than 28,000 multinational forces from 26 nations will conduct nearly simultaneous operations across more than 30 training areas in more than a dozen countries from the Baltics to the strategically important Balkans and Black Sea Region.
