Officials from Cook County and the Cook County Department of Public Health join Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, of Springfield, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard, in a “clap-out” as members of the Illinois National Guard exit the COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Site at the Tinley Park Convention Center in Tinley Park, Illinois. After administering approximately 135,000 vaccinations, the site closed May 27. Neely and Command Sgt. Maj. Dena Ballowe, of Litchfield, Illinois, Senior Enlisted Leader, Illinois National Guard, visited the Tinley Park site to thank the members of the Illinois National Guard and civilian contractors during a “graduation ceremony” at the site hosted by the Cook County Department of Public Health. The Soldiers working the site will be moved to other vaccine sites in the Chicagoland area. While at the sites, Neely and Ballowe offered their thanks to members working the sites and presented challenge coins recognizing ILNG members for their efforts. Neely told the troops the ILNG couldn’t work the COVID-19 mission without them, while Ballowe called the Soldiers the real heroes in the fight against COVID-19. Since the first mass vaccination site opened Jan. 26, the sites where ILNG members assisted the local health departments have provided 1.75 million vaccinations to residents.
