Sgt. Michael Rogers, a Pittsburg, Kan., native and team leader with the Kansas National Guard, guides an Armenian soldier with the Engineering Company of the Armenian Peacekeeping Brigade as he searches for simulated mines during the mine-detection portion of the Humanitarian Mine Action program training course. Armenian troops are relatively new to using metal detecting devices to locate mines. Kansas National guardsmen and a civilian representative from the U.S. Humanitarian Demining Training Center are instructing Armenian peacekeepers and engineer battalions on international demining standards as part of the Humanitarian Mine Action program and will assist the Armenian government in developing a national standard operating procedure for demining.
