Members from the Capital City Fire Rescue conducted a joint agency training exercise with members from the 17th Coast Guard District, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Juneau, Coast Guard Auxiliary, State of Alaska Office of Boating Safety, and civilians, May 27, 2021
The training capped off the in-training safe boating instructors' week by having them be the simulated "victim" to be rescued.
"It's important for our instructors to know what it's like to be rescued," said Mike Folkerts, Coast Guard 17th District boating safety expert. "They should have the personal experience of being rescued, and see rescues being performed in a controlled outdoor environment.
