GROTON, Conn. (Aug. 3, 2021) Dr. Justin Handy, research physiologist, discussed his research with staff from Fitch High School and Groton Public Schools during their tour of Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory (NSMRL). Handy highlighted a project that uses an underwater exercise bike to explore how physical exertion impacts cognitive function in divers. Fitch High School is interested in founding a Navy National Defense Cadet Corps (NNDCC) and visited NSMRL to explore a collaboration. NSMRL has lines of research that align with the NNDCC curriculum and a longstanding commitment to mentoring youth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The lab’s mission is to sustain the readiness and superiority of our undersea warriors through innovative health and performance research. (U.S. Navy photo by Erica Casper/Released)
