Lt. Col. Robert Steckler, a general surgeon with the Army Reserve's 479th Medical Detachment, sutures internal injuries on a cut suit during his training at Regional Medic at Fort McCoy, Wis., July 16, 2021. A cut suit is a vest comprised of simulated internal organs used to replicate the look, feel, and smell of severe traumatic events on a live human casualty, allowing first responders and physicians to safely practice performing real surgical procedures. The Medical Readiness and Training Command executes Regional Medic as part of the Army Reserve Medical Command's larger mission to provide trained, equipped, and combat ready units and medical personnel which are ready now to support the total force on the battlefields of today and tomorrow.
