Sgt. Christian Tolbert, an M1 armor crewman with 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, refills a hand sanitizer bottle for an Afghan child while conducting a community engagement event in support of Operation Allies Welcome at Fort Bliss’ Doña Ana Complex in New Mexico, Sept. 11, 2021. Engagement teams work with the Afghan community and help with navigating in processing procedures and other issues and concerns they may have. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
