Operation Allies Welcome - Operation Allies Refuge

Alfredo Gomez, a Department of Homeland Security representative in charge of confirming the identities of out-processing Afghan evacuees, inputs information into the DHS database on Fort Bliss' Dona Ana Complex in New Mexico, Sept. 23, 2021. The DHS uses facial recognition software to confirm the identities of all out-processing Afghan adults. Fort Bliss is one of the locations in the U.S. hosting Afghan evacuees as part of Operation Allies Welcome. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghans at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Jacob Lang, 24th Theater Public Affairs Support Element)
