Department of Homeland Security personnel guide Afghan evacuees who have completed out-processing procedures to their temporary living quarters before departing Fort Bliss' Doña Ana Complex in New Mexico, Sept. 23, 2021. Out-processing is a two-day procedure, with identity confirmation and cultural briefings the first day, and a final identity confirmation and departure of Doña Ana Complex to their final destination the next day. Fort Bliss is one of the locations in the U.S. hosting Afghan evacuees as part of Operation Allies Welcome. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghans at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Jacob Lang, 24th Theater Public Affairs Support Element)
