A prototype unmanned aircraft system (UAS) sits on the flight deck before a launch in support of 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) operations aboard USS Germantown (LSD 42) while at sea, July 9, 2021. The 31st MEU supports force design experimentation with prototype vertical take-off landing UAS efforts in line with the Commandant’s Planning Guidance. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Expeditionary Strike Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region.
