U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Lewis Layton III, the sergeant major of 3d Battalion, 6th Marine, reads a citation during a French Fourragere ceremony on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Sept. 30, 2021. Marines with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion earned the privilege to wear the French Fourragere while attached to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in support of Operation Allies Welcome. The French Fourragere was originally awarded by the French government to members of the 5th and 6th Marine Regiments for their heroic actions at the Battle of Belleau Wood during WWI.
