Congressman Jerrold Nadler (left), Warrie Price, President and Founder, The Battery Conservancy, Gabrielle Fialkoff, Commissioner, NYC Parks, and Adm. Karl L. Schultz, Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard, cut the ribbon to officially rededicate the Coast Guard Memorial at The Battery, Manhattan, New York, Oct. 4, 2021. The sculpture, which honors Coast Guard members who served during World War II, depicts two Coast Guardsmen wearing combat uniforms with rifles slung, supporting a wounded African American service member and is believed to be first U.S. War Memorial depicting an interracial group of equal standing.
