U.S. Army Col. Ricardo Jones, Commander of 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Infantry Division updates 1st Sustainment Brigade soldiers on changes to operations at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), Pa., on Oct. 1, 2021. Aerial Port of Debarkation (APOD) PHL is operating as the primary facility in the United States receiving Afghan evacuees from overseas. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
