Japanese pilots with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Air Rescue Squadron 71 land a ShinMaywa US-2 aircraft during sea rescue training off the coast of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Oct. 5, 2021. The exercise demonstrated Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Air Rescue Squadron 71’s ability to quickly respond to crisis and showcased the aircraft’s air-sea rescue capabilities. All flight operations at MCAS Iwakuni are necessary to maintain a high level of readiness and the sustainment of military operations in support of the U.S.-Japan Alliance. (U. S.
