U.S. Marine Corps LCpl. Mark Arcive, a transmissions system operator with 9th Communication Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force Information group, relays a simulated call for fire to a Los Angeles Class Submarine at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Oct. 12, 2021. 9th Communication Battalion participated in the exercise with 11th Naval Submarine Squadron to establish field expedient communications with U.S. Navy Submariners. The importance of this exercise is to furnish undersea advantages provided by submariners that are robust and credible in a conventional capability that deters both nuclear and conventional conflict.
