Gunnery Sgt. Michael Wentline, a Marine Corps Drill Instructor assigned to Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN), Rhode Island, observes an Officer Candidate School (OCS) class 04-22 student performing the 50-yard swim component of the third-class swimmer test, Oct. 5. The test consists of jumping from a 10-foot tower into the pool to simulate abandoning ship, five minutes of floating in the prone position, coverall inflation, and a 50-yard swim. OCS morally, mentally, and physically develops civilians and fleet Sailors into newly commissioned officers and imbues them with the highest ideals of honor, courage and commitment to prepare graduates for service in the fleet as Naval officers.
