Pfc. Christian Sutton, assigned to 40th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, uses a pair of jeans to translate pant sizing with an Afghan evacuee during the opening day of the storefront that provides donated essential items to Afghan evacuees at no charge at Fort Bliss’ Doña Ana Complex, New Mexico, Oct. 4, 2021. The storefront operation assisted over 600 evacuees during its inaugural day. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures.
