210727-N-AC165-0031(July 27, 2021) – Able-bodied Seaman Nadia Macasaet works in the deck department aboard USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO 193). Macasaet explains the makeup of the ship’s deck department. All positions in the ship’s deck department are civil service mariners (CIVMARs) employed by the U.S. Navy to serve Military Sealift Command (MSC) onboard naval auxiliaries and hybrid-manned warships worldwide, in peace and war. MSC exists to support the joint warfighter across the full spectrum of military operations.
Macasaet is the first in her family to sail in the maritime industry. “I’ve always been comfortable on the water and found the idea of traveling around the world for work to be a huge plus.”
