    Members of the U.S. European Command Joint Color Guard help re-create a vigil alongside French counterparts in Châlons-en-Champagne, France, Oct. 23, 2021, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown. On Oct. 23, 1921, French and U.S. service members stood vigil overnight as the Unknown Soldier, who made the ultimate sacrifice on French soil during WWI, prepared to start the journey home to the U.S. France is the U.S.’ oldest ally, with diplomatic relations stretching more than 225 years.
