A horse-drawn carriage in front of Town Hall Oct. 24, 2021, re-creates the Unknown Soldier’s journey from Town Hall in Châlons-en-Champagne to a train bound for Le Havre, France, Oct. 24, 1921. Over 2 million U.S. service members served in France during WWI. Of these, almost 70,000 are buried or memorialized at U.S. military cemeteries in France. Eternally anonymous, the Unknown Soldier died in the WWI offensives at either Saint-Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, Aisne-Marne or Somme. (U.S. Army Photo by Sgt. Anthony Whipple)
