Senior Airman Chad M. Koon and retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Richard Kibbey tour the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency's (DPAA) lab on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Oct. 29, 2021. Kibbey and Koon attended Col. Richard A. Kibbey's Chain of Custody ceremony as surviving family members, where they formally received his remains. While conducting a rescue and recovery mission in an HH-3E helicopter over North Vietnam, Kibbey and fellow aircrew received enemy fire which resulted in an internal explosion and crash.
