Dr. Len Bartlotti, a volunteer with Millennium Relief and Development Services, teaches Afghan individuals about U.S culture on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Nov. 1, 2021. The activity was part of a U.S. culture class offered to guests, one of a variety of classes offered while they move through the process of starting a new life in the U.S. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
