DAVENPORT, Iowa – Col. Todd Allison, the garrison commander of Rock Island Arsenal, presents Martha Wahe the Public Service Commendation Medal and a “two-star note” from the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, leadership on Nov. 8. The award and note recognized Wahe for her service to the nation during World War II, when she served as a Women Ordnance Worker (WOW) at RIA; as well as her later contributions to the RIA community as a civilian employee and for her volunteer work with the Rock Island Arsenal Historical Society. Wahe, who turned 100 years old on Nov. 8, is one of the last surviving WOWs left in the country and the only one left who worked at RIA.
