ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Illinois – Martha Wahe, (standing third from left) poses with some of her fellow Women Ordnance Workers (WOWs) in the Order Control Building in 1944. Wahe started working as a WOW in the summer of 1942 on the loading docks at Rock Island Arsenal. Initially she drove a “mule” or truck, later she moved to driving forklifts, and eventually ended up working in the office of the OCB.
