Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Lt. Col. Hirotugu Oda, commanding officer of 15th Engineer Company, and U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Marcus Gillet, the commanding officer of 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3d Marine Logistics Group, pose for a photo during a bilateral mobility and survivability field exercise on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 1, 2021. The exercise was conducted for Marines and JGSDF members to train together, and to introduce and familiarize the JGSDF members to the Marine Corps heavy equipment. 3d MLG, based out of Okinawa, Japan, is a forward deployed combat unit that serves as III Marine Expeditionary Force’s comprehensive logistics and combat service support backbone for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.
