Marines with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment play a game of soccer with Afghan evacuees at Fort Pickett, Virginia on Dec. 14, 2021. While service members have been educating evacuees about life in the United States, the evacuees have been providing an education in soccer, beating the Marines 13-2. The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
