Sgt. Amanda Claro-Bevsek with 3rd Civil Affair Group, Force Headquarters Group, Marine Forces Reserve, guides an Afghan evacuee through a soccer field at Fort Pickett, Virginia on Dec. 14, 2021. Sgt. Claro-Bevsek volunteered to be a part of Task Force Pickett to apply her skills to a mission where she can help improve the lives of Afghan evacuees and help them transition to their life in the United States. The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
