U.S. Marines with Combat Logistic Battalion (CLB) 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), run a recognition of combatants (ROC) brief during MEU exercise (MEUEX) on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 9, 2021. ROC briefs are designed to instruct Marines on landscapes and landmarks, as well as make them aware of various battlefield hazards. MEUEX is a pre-deployment training exercise that validates and reinforces the MEU’s mission capabilities across all of the Marine subordinate elements. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
