Stage 1 of the McCook Reservoir, with a flood storage of 3.5 billion gallons, was completed on 31 December 2017; and stage 2 of the reservoir, with a storage volume of 6.5 billion gallons, is scheduled to be completed in 2029. The work is being completed by MWRD, with construction oversite of the USACE. McCook Levee construction was completed in the fall of 2020 and included restoring the levee system to a proper elevation, removing invasive species, and improving the infrastructure of the system.
