The advanced weapons elevator is an innovative Ford-class-specific technology that allows for the streamlining of weapons assembly and movement, and provides greater efficiencies with less manpower and maintenance requirements. Ford is in port at Newport News Shipyard executing her Planned Incremental Availability (PIA), a six-month period of modernization, maintenance and repairs.
