Maxwell AFB, Ala. – Civil rights attorney and author Fred Gray, Sr., honors Rosa Parks during the commemoration of the 66th anniversary of her refusal to relinquish her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Ala. A sculpture created by artist Ian Mangum was unveiled by Lt. Gen. Brad Webb and Lt. Gen. James Hecker at the intersection of Montgomery and Molton Streets, Dec. 1, 2021. Parks worked at the Maxwell Field Guest House prior to her protest. Mangum created two identical pieces of artwork honoring Parks, one of which stands on Maxwell Air Force Base.
