When choosing vegetation for the grounds around the Walla Walla District HQ building, emphasis was put on choosing species that were native, low maintenance, and able to thrive in poorly drained soils.
The final lineup includes Silver Dragon Lilyturf, Carol Mackie Daphne, Tautons Yew, Kinnikinic, County Park Star Creeper, Lilla Smoke Tree, and Red Maple. These species should be able to thrive on the grounds with minimal care while providing year-round color for everyone to enjoy!
In the spring, we will be seeding in a grass mix that is produced in the Columbia basin. This mix is more drought tolerant than the previous mix and will be better able to tolerate poor soil drainage.
