Idaho Army National Guard Capt. Mark Ross serves as the Superintendent for the Maneuver Area Training Equipment Site (MATES). The MATES facility is located at the entry point for the Orchard Combat Training Center in Idaho.
Ross is a 2015 graduate of BSU and the Bronco Battalion. He currently oversees all the operations for maintenance and repair of all Abrams Tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Armored Personnel Carriers, small arms repair and anything that moves across the landscape on tracks for the 116th Cavalry Brigade for units in Idaho, Oregon and Nevada.
Originally from Dallas, Texas, Ross said he was awarded a U.S. Army ROTC scholarship for college. Visiting a variety of campuses failed to make any real impact on his choice until he visited BSU where he says, “ the switch went on.” He said the culture at BSU was hospitable to his growth and BSU maintained a healthy college culture. He was so appreciative of BSU and the surrounding community that he chose to stay in Idaho and joined the Idaho Army National Guard.
The Office of Visual Information for Idaho Army National Guard will follow the Boise State University Bronco Battalion for the Spring 2022 Semester through graduation. The program trains young men and women to serve as officers and leaders. Graduates will serve as officers in the U.S. Army, the Army National Guard, and the U.S. Army Reserves. Several seniors scheduled to graduate will eventually serve in the Idaho Army National Guard, while some cadets are already currently serving in the Idaho Army National Guard while attending BSU. Many officers currently serving in the Idaho Army National Guard are graduates of the Bronco Battalion.
