A New Hampshire delegation visits Pillory Square in the town of Cidade Vehla on Feb. 4, 2022, on the island of Santiago, Cabo Verde. The square features a stone column, built in the early 1500s, where slaves were once publicly punished. The delegation, headed by the Gov. Chris Sununu, attended signing ceremony earlier that morning at the 3rd Military Region Parade Ground in Praia to formalize a state partnership between the New Hampshire National Guard and the Republic of Cabo Verde.
