U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Dawson Dew, a recruit with Golf Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, participates in a swim qualification event on Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, March 16, 2022. The Marine Corps instructors of water survival on MCRD San Diego train all recruits on various water survival techniques such as: treading water, improvising a floatation device, self-rescue swims and an underwater gear strip. The purpose of basic swim qualification is to give recruits the necessary tools to be an effective asset in any amphibious situation.
