Before workers enter the confined space inside of the Sepulveda Dam to make their inspection, Charles Fouty, dam equipment repair operator with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District, removes a plate atop the dam to vent gas caused by creosote March 22 in Van Nuys, California. After the plate was removed, large ventilation hoses were inserted to remove any gas buildup. District personnel recently completed training to work in confined areas. The dam underwent a hydraulic steel structure inspection March 22-23. (Photo by John Reese, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District)
