Australian hostage Douglas Wood was rescued by Iraqi Army Soldiers from his captors at 10:50 a.m. June 15.
While conducting a planned cordon-and-search operation for a weapons cache, Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 1st Iraqi Army Brigade discovered Wood and an Iraqi hostage, Rasul Qasim Karim Al-Ta, in the Al Adel neighborhood in northwest Baghdad.
Three individuals were detained during the cordon-and-search. In addition to finding the hostages, the IA unit also discovered a weapons cache, which included four AK-47 rifles and a sniper rifle.
Soldiers met with light resistance from the terrorists during the rescue.
Wood was taken to a medical treatment facility on a nearby U.S. Army camp where he was examined by medical personnel.
