Maj. Gen. Michael C. Thompson, former Adjutant General for Oklahoma, holds a measuring tape while delivering a speech during his retirement ceremony held at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City, April 15, 2022. Thompson's speech focused on the importance of time and treating others with dignity and respect. Thompson joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 1983 as an enlisted Soldier. He later commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1986 through the Oklahoma Military Department Officer Candidate School. Before being appointed as the Adjutant General for Oklahoma, Thompson recent positions include Assistant Adjutant General-Army, Land Component Commander and Commander of 90th Troop Command. Over the course of his officer career, Thompson has commanded at the company, battalion and brigade levels. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and 2008.
